Claremont cranes cars into Auto Trader’s new Manchester home.

May 2, 2014

Cars filled the Manchester skyline yesterday as Claremont Group Interiors moved some unusual design features into Auto Trader’s new North West office on First Street, Manchester.

Six iconic cars from the brand’s 37 year history were craned into the office as part of the £4m interior design and fit-out works.  A 1977 Jaguar XJ, 1987 Audi Quattro, 1997 TVR Cerbera, and a rare Citroen H Van were some of the vehicles selected by employees at Auto Trader, all dating from different decades back to the founding year, 1977.

Claremont’s joint managing director Ann Clarke said: “These cars aren’t just for aesthetic value, we’ve adapted them to create unusual collaborative meeting spaces to support how the Auto Trader team works.  This will be a truly stand-out office environment that mirrors everything Auto Trader stands for.”

Claremont Group Interiors is managing the full interior design and fit-out of the 60,000 sq ft office and is currently on site delivering the 16 week programme of works.

The relocation will see the 600 strong North West team relocate to one central site in Manchester city centre and create  75 new jobs for the city.  Trevor Mather, MD at Auto Trader said:  “The significant investment in the First Street office provides our North West team with the opportunity to take the business to the next level by collaborating together to serve our customers in a way that only the best digital companies can do.  We will also be creating new jobs for Manchester and whilst the business is clearly looking to the future, the installation of the classic cars pays homage to Auto Trader heritage and works as a reminder of our evolution.”

Special thanks to Quality Contract Lifting Limited which managed all aspects of the lift and Total Fleet UK in Worsley, for the specialist modification of all six vehicles.
