"Claremont really embraced our vision and built upon it. They recognised the importance of flexibility in our teaching and living spaces and also our need for something exceptional." David Palmer, Assistant Bursar

The brief

Bradfield College in Berkshire is a co-educational boarding school for students from 13 to 18 years old. Claremont was tasked with helping to create a home-from-home girls’ common room and a large flexible teaching space that would set the college apart, all while respecting the college’s listed building status.

Bradfield College’s brief was to create two distinct spaces to differentiate the college and help deliver better results from students through the creation of more flexible learning and social spaces.

Claremont was tasked with designing a new interior for a new girls’ common room, matron’s surgery and the house mistress’s study. The second area included a new geography department split over two floors, which had to incorporate flexible classrooms, and private study areas.

The results

The Claremont team designed separate smaller areas, complete with furniture solutions throughout in order to increase collaboration within the college.

The common room is now a warm and welcoming space that offers excellent visibility for the House Mistress and includes ample tables and chairs for students to relax.

The new geography department comprises six new classrooms, three of which can be joined by removing bi-fold walls to create one large space for teaching and college events.

Claremont really embraced our vision and built upon it. They recognised the importance of flexibility in our teaching and living spaces and also our need for something exceptional. They have delivered on all counts and we’re thrilled with the creativity and attention to detail shown throughout the project, not to mention the wonderful new facilities we can now offer students.
