Location: Oneleven, Arundel Gate, Sheffield
Sector: Public Sector (Education)
Project Size: 38,000 sq ft
Scope of Works: Design > Fit-out > Furniture

The Brief
Having invested more than £100m in the last 10 years on teaching and learning facilities, and with proposals for a further £50m by 2010, Sheffield Hallam University were looking to free-up valuable teaching space within its City Campus. As a result of this requirement, the University decided to purchase the entire 38,000 sq ft ‘Oneleven’ office building and relocate a number of administrative and support functions to the new premises. Situated on Arundel Gate, one of the main thoroughfares through Sheffield city centre, and standing as one of the most striking and prominent buildings on the Sheffield cityscape, the premises comprise grade A office space over 6 floors. Following a 2-stage tender process, Claremont proved successful in putting forward a design and internal fit-out proposal befitting the style and high standard upheld by a University which boasts one of the best campuses in the U.K.

The Solution
Claremont’s bid was successful, both in terms of offering a value-engineered interior solution and in putting forward a design proposal which would help to create a greatly improved space for staff to work. Key areas of work included a new reception, hospitality area and meeting rooms and fit-out works to the working office floors.
Claremont successfully partnered with key members of the Project Team, including Jefferson Sheard Architects, Capita Symonds Ltd (M&E Engineers), Sheffield City Council and Mascot Management (Project Managers & QS), to achieve the key objectives set out by the University which included timely completion of the development to meet occupation by the start of the new academic year and delivery of a cost-effective scheme of the highest quality which meets the University’s educational needs and aspirations.

The Result
An internal satisfaction survey was conducted by Sheffield Hallam following completion of the works, looking at satisfaction with the move, levels of disruption and overall satisfaction with the fixtures, fitting and facilities. A number of positive comments were received from respondents, including:
“I am delighted with the new offices compared to the old offices.”

“… the accommodation itself is modern and spacious and a very nice environment to work in.”
