Rights and Humanity: Liverpool

Location: The Royal Liver Building, Liverpool
Sector: Charity/ Not-for-profit
Project Size: 11,000 sq ft
Scope of Works: Design > Fit-out > Audiovisual

The Brief

Following extensive refurbishment works already carried out by Claremont to the common areas and tenant space of the Royal Liver Building, Claremont were appointed to carry out the detailed design and complete strip-out of the 1st floor space to be occupied by Rights and Humanity, followed by the full fit-out and refurbishment of the suite.
The completed International Centre of Excellence would house a flexible main Conference Suite, (seating 110 in theatre style), additional Seminar Room, Dining Room (seating 32), Consensus Room, Prayer Room, Lounge, commercial kitchen, Library, Rights and Humanity’s offices and a VIP meeting room.
Included in the challenges faced with working in the Grade I listed building, would be the repair and sensitive restoration of the floor’s original architectural features, many of which had previously remained concealed.

The Solution & Result

Following strip-out, the fit-out works included the installation of new solid and glazed partitions, doors and ironmongery, WCs, tea points and cleaner facilities, a new raised access floor, new ceilings, fire barriers within the floor and ceiling voids, sub-floor power and data, new lighting scheme, VRF heating and cooling system, automatic fire detection, audiovisual equipment, decorations and flooring finishes.
The works also entailed the installation of a steel-framed 200 sq ft mezzanine floor providing access to the Library area, the installation of a stained glass window which was relocated from another part of the building and repairs to the original ceiling detail and high level perimeter cornices.
As befitting the ethos and policies of the charity, due consideration was also taken in the environmental impact of the production and supply of materials for the build.
