The Brief
The U.K’s leading supplier of controlled environmental testing chambers, Vindon Scientific Ltd specialises in ‘creating the perfect environment’ for pharmaceutical and biotechnology research. Vindon appointed Claremont Group Interiors to create a new, purpose-built facility which would not only support the company’s clinical operations, but which would also provide a warmer, client-facing side to the business.
After 40 years at their existing site in Diggle in Oldham, Claremont were asked to assist with Vindon’s relocation. The company had outgrown its Diggle premises which were no longer suitable for current working practices, nor for plans to develop existing markets and move into new ones.
Following their property search, Vindon ultimately signed for the construction of a building on the 420-acre Kinsgway Business Park development in Rochdale (expected to be one of the largest business parks in the UK), with the intention of creating a purpose-built manufacturing and storage facility, with a build & test area, multi-level expansion and storage space, as well as office functions, presentation facilities and client/ staff facilities.
The Solution
Following a competitive tender process, Claremont was further appointed to bring all elements of the project together and complete the turn-key fit-out of the building. The new facility was split between office space and open plan warehouse/ storage space, with works including the construction of a specialist mezzanine, new ceiling, lighting and boardroom (complete with AV supplied by Claremont’s ‘Viewpoint’ division).
Working conditions and welfare were a high priority, with both technical and warehousing functions working hand-in-hand to create a niche solution for the client. Vindon were also particularly keen to create an impact and to ensure that the company’s history within the local community would be reflected in the design solution.
The Result
The project has enabled the company to consolidate all its U.K operations and has provided a significant new platform for future growth. The new premises now provide a best-in-class storage and disaster recovery facility, significantly increasing the company’s brand and product profile. The storage capacity of the facility has increased by nearly five-fold and the manufacturing capacity by two-fold.
"The improved infrastructure and extra space is much needed. We will now be able to further develop our range of services and continue to grow our client base alongside the expansion in our exhibition work in the U.K and US. Claremont's design team were excellent at transferring Vindon's requirements and corporate image into working designs and I know our clients will appreciate the new facility."
