Pace Micro Technology (Reception & Client Suite): Bradford
Location: Saltaire, Bradford
Sector: Industrial/ Manufacturing/ Engineering, Science/ Technology
Project Size: 7,000 sq ft
The Brief
Founded by Victorian philanthropist, Sir Titus Salt, as a state of the art manufacturing facility in 1851, Salt’s Mill is not only a UNESCO World Heritage Site, but also home to one the world’s leading technology companies, Pace Plc.
Spurred by thriving financial results and a booming marketplace, Pace acknowledged that plans for continued growth and development needed to be tied with developments in the organisation’s facilities—both from an internal and a client-facing point of view. As is the case for most technology companies—a market that relies on innovation, forward-thinking and quality—the company realised that they needed the space around them to not only convey the right image, but also to support this forward momentum. Claremont identified that the reception and client areas of the Mill were not in line with the brand position of Pace and that there were opportunities to create a more innovative and welcoming client suite.
The Solution
In considering the existing client area, Claremont determined that there was insufficient existing space for meetings and client presentations. The existing facilities were not flexible enough and an under-utilised office space was defined adjacent to the reception where a new meeting suite could be created.
Reception itself would be relocated and a more impressive space designed, including a demonstration area showing how Pace’s products could be employed by the end-user, re-creating a variety of home settings to demonstrate the company’s market position as a leader in home solutions.
A series of flexible meeting rooms were installed with extensive audio-visual and multi media facilities to enable Pace in the UK to communicate effectively with their colleagues, suppliers and clients worldwide.
The Result
In developing Pace Micro’s workplace at Salt’s Mill, Claremont worked in partnership with the client to achieve something quite remarkable—successfully maintaining the look and feel of a Grade II listed home, whilst also simultaneously conveying an image of modernity.
Claremont were careful not to change the structure of building and to reveal—rather than conceal— its unique features . The high ceilings, arched windows and cast iron columns have been retained and the reception space is a fine example of the way in which the project has effectively ‘re-discovered’ the building, as elements such as columns and ceiling features have been exposed and given a new lease of life.
The client suite and reception space provides a variety of settings for Pace to meet their clients, demonstrate their products and express their brand as market leaders.
