The Brief
Despite the increasing number of call centres being offshored, O2 has made a conscious decision to locate all its call centres in the UK. The network provider has four major call centres in the UK, the latest of these being in Glasgow.
The Solution
Brand values and brand recognition are a high priority for the company. With a strapline of “Clear, Open, Bold, Trusted” the interpretation was of a free, fresh and clean-looking working environment. The feeling of openness was enhanced by a colour palette of cool blue and white and complemented by the 3m high ceiling and an open plan layout. The 120 degree pentagon desks were set out in clusters or ‘pods’ which left plenty of room for movement between areas. Claremont was appointed to specify, supply and install all loose furniture items. This included 1,200 workstations by Teknion, task seating by GGI and all-important noise-reducing acoustic screening. To support the 24/7 working patterns which included ‘hot-desking’ (‘one out one in’), as well as to avoid the inevitable desk clutter, each member of staff was supplied with their own attaché case so that they can keep safe their documents or information.
The Result
Around the operational floor, staff facilities are bright, welcoming and well received. The breakout space combines soft seating areas for relaxation and a café area for the staff, with internet perch stations and touchdown space. Staff have free access to the internet, landline telephones and three games stations. There are one-to-one rooms and a quiet room plus a couple of table football games in the break out area. In addition to this there are products on display for staff to play with and learn to use.
