The Brief

Logica CMG have recently secured an 6 year contract to train MOD staff. Claremont was briefed to undertake the complete re-design and fit-out of the 1996 building. The client brief wished to convey both branding and corporate image and was to allow for much greater communication and interaction without sacrificing any areas of learning still required for client education.

The Solution

The scheme comprised of new lecture, seminar and training rooms and increased space dedicated to delegate lounge areas. The capacity of the office space to provide expansion space for support staff was increased. A large restaurant and food retail facility catering for up to 150 people in an informal environment was also incorporated. With security such a high priority for the MOD an enlarged central core area beyond new secure entrance barriers has increased confidence in security whilst allowing free circulation on both floors.

The Result

The most striking aspect of the scheme is the use of colour, the psychological impact of colour and how it can enhance learning was integral to the project. With red used in spaces to excite the delegates and violet to turn focus inwards and to create a restful space. Blue has also been incorporated for its psychological qualities – those of efficiency, logic, calm, aspiration and for mental stimulation. Delegate lounge areas have been added to create café style breakout and touchdown areas with soft seating and vending areas. These have greatly improved the delegates perception of the environment and experience of Logica CMG. Feedback from both the client and the delegates has been overwhelmingly positive. The objectives of the brief have been met and delegates now have a stimulating learning environment as well as pleasant spaces to spend time outside of learning sessions.
