The Brief
The Bowman project has had several offshoots and manifestations in terms of continuity within the product solution that was developed for the programme. The work with ARTD (Army Recruiting and Training Division) has been propagated through EDS Defence for a couple of years, seeking to provide an affordable and practical classroom design that uses all of the attributes from earlier projects. The locations are widespread and cover bases at Catterick, Bordon, Deepcut, Minley, Southwick, Chicksands and Blandford Forum.
 
The Solution
The classroom design is based on a simple projector, projection screen, instructor work station and at least twenty student work stations, of which the main supply source is through Teknion and Dauphin products. This gives the user
an integrated monitor that can be retracted when not in use, allowing full access to the work surface area, whilst providing a high degree of security for the client. All work stations were processed through Claremont’s test-bed facilities prior to
delivery to site, which reduces installation time at base and ensures a live working environment in the shortest possible time. Most classrooms take one working day to install and commission. The entire process has been managed by Claremont’s in-house team.
 
The Result
The simplicity and flexibility inherent in the design concept has been realised fully throughout the programme and allows EDS Defence to be seen as a key provider of leading-edge classroom infrastructure. The solution is easy to execute and
can be dismantled and re-sited with great facility when required. Future projects at Warminster and other locations are likely as a consequence of the success of the classroom design. The lead-time of four weeks from order to completion is a compelling factor in the implementation of this style of environment, which has been the mainstay of Claremont’s approach to market in recent years.
