Endurance runner tackles Mont Blanc with Claremont’s help.

Avid Earby-runner Michael Plummer has completed the 104 mile Ultra Tour Du Mont Blanc (UTMB) race in France with the help of sponsorship from Claremont Group Interiors.

Michael (32) started running in 2011 and after competing in a number of UK races, the first of which involved a 62 mile run across the Yorkshire Dales, he decided to take on the ultimate challenge – The Ultra Tour du Mont Blanc in France – a 104 mile race and 9,600 metre climb across three countries in less than 46 hours.

The race took place on August 29th and he completed the challenge in 41 hours 37 minutes coming in 840 out of 2300 race entrants.

Michael, who is also a member of his local running club, Barlick Fell Runners, said: “This is definitely one of the biggest challenges I’ve ever faced and will probably ever face again.  It was an absolutely amazing experience and a breath-taking location.  The race was a real test of physical endurance and at times I thought I just wouldn’t make it, but I just kept focused on reaching the finish line.”

Michael took the decision to compete in the UTMB back in 2013 after earning enough points to qualify from his performance in 12 Grand Slam races.

He added: “Over the last three years the events I’ve competed in have kept getting bigger, better and more expensive, so sponsorship has become all important.  Claremont’s contribution helped with the travel, hotel and equipment costs and I’m incredibly grateful for their support.”

Claremont Group interiors’ joint managing director, Tim Frankland, decided to sponsor Mick after a chance meeting with him at a surprise 30th party for a mutual friend.

Tim said: “Mick really impressed me with his determination and the scale of the challenge so I knew we needed to give him some support. He did phenomenally well and we’re delighted we could help him achieve one of his ambitions.”
