Office space designed for Nokia music by by Claremont Group Interiors

Claremont in tune with Nokia Music as company expansion takes them into bigger premises

Published on 17 Dec 2007

Nokia Music selected Claremont Group Interiors to design and fit out their new offices in the former Prudential building in Bristol city centre, after their successful buy-out of On Demand Distribution (OD2), a specialist in the development and distribution of digital music, led to the need for a larger premises.

With offices spread over three floors, the overall concept was to give Nokia Music a funkier, more stimulating and creative place to work as well as providing a light and modern environment.

Musical influences were integral to the design. Claremont, the biggest interior design and fit-out company outside of London, incorporated album artwork on to the glazing in the open plan areas and on the meeting rooms to add interest to the open plan floor whilst adding an element of privacy. The musical theme continued as rooms adopted the names of influential global music artists, as suggested by the employees.

Additional themes include images of renowned buildings relating to the Bristol music scene and nationality-themed rooms to reflect the diversity of Nokia's staff. Along with the general office spaces and meeting rooms, breakout spaces were also created to allow for relaxation and eating, including space with tables and soft seating, a pool table, plasma screen and games consoles. A flexible space was also created which could be adapted to suit the company's requirements such as use for company meetings and presentations or evening meetings and social occasions.

Both Nokia and OD2 were delighted with the results. Neil Hildreth, Real Estate Manager for Nokia in Europe said:

"Claremont's response was head and shoulders above the rest of the companies who responded and the results are there to see. What was important was that we were able to introduce new ideas that were clearly related to the business and it's identity but which did not necessarily take the Nokia corporate identity completely literally."

The employees also showed their approval, with 93% showing their appreciation in an office satisfaction questionnaire.
