Sudden Arrythmic Death Syndrome (SADS)
Colin Hankin was a young apprentice who worked in the company's Accounts Department in Warrington. Colin was only with us for a short time when he died of Sudden Adult Death Syndrome (SADS) two days after his 18th birthday in 2000. Since that time we have been helping Colin's family raise funds in order to help to make people more aware of this undetectable heart condition which primarily attacks young sports men and women.
As a result of fundraising efforts, Claremont managed to raise enough money to buy a Cardiotronic machine for a local surgery (Holes Lane in Woolston) in 2002 and a further unit in 2003.
In 2006 a group of Associates within Claremont launched an initiative to raise money throughout the year through fundraising activities which ranged from an employee auctioning off personal paintings, marathon sponsorship and tennis coaching. Over £4000 was raised. Claremont Managing Director, Mike Gardner, also pledged to match the amount that the employees raised, bringing the total to £9000 which was presented to Angela Morris in Spring 2007.
Colin's mother Angela Morris said,
"I still haven't come down to earth yet, I was overwhelmed at the generosity and kindness you all showed me. Thank you just doesn't seem enough. The way everyone came to talk to me about Colin felt as if it was only yesterday that I lost him. You all speak about him with such vivid memories, so many soon forget and knowing you all keep him in your thoughts is just wonderful."
