Cambridge Water case study
Cambridge Water appointed chartered architects Barber Cazenovas Ruffles to redevelop a water softening treatment works which had originally been constructed in 1934.
The building is a well-known landmark in Cambridge in Fulbourn Road and the challenge was to create a new headquarters building on this site. The elevation of the existing building has been retained with a new simple and symmetrical conservatory enveloping the entire façade.
The solution
Claremont joined the professional team as interior designers and workplace consultants, to help Cambridge Water restructure their work processes and improve their workflow and communication. The project also included relocating staff from a number of different offices into the new facility.
Working alongside the HR team Claremont established new planning principles to engender improved team communication and carried out workshops to ensure the staff had in out into the new environment. The glass envelop acts as a noise buffer and breakout areas have been created within this innovative space.
Claremont was also commissioned to design all the interior design features and provide a specification of high quality and contemporary finishes which complement the exciting architectural design. Within this scope we designed and installed all the audio-visual equipment, including plasma screens and multi-media facilities within the atrium and staff breakout space.
The result
The existing old water station now has a sympathetic, striking and modern design. The internal spaces provide an inspiring and productive environment which has been well received by visitors and staff alike.
