"We were looking for a company to add flair and design to this project. The aim is to give our staff the opportunity to find new ways of working and challenge existing norms in terms of office space." Alex Pettifer, Director of Estates and Facilities

The brief

Having invested more than £100m in the last 10 years on teaching and learning facilities, and with proposals for a further £50m by 2010, Sheffield Hallam University was looking to free up valuable teaching space within its city campus.

The university required flexible and modern teaching spaces that would bring students and staff together. Following a stage tender process, Claremont proved successful in putting forward a design and fit-out proposal, which suited the style and high standard upheld by a university that boasts one of the best campuses in the UK.

The results

Claremont provided a value-engineered design, which helped to create a greatly improved space for staff to work. This included a brand new reception and hospitality area and meeting rooms. Claremont worked closely with the project team which included Jefferson Sheard Architects, Capita Symonds Ltd (M&E Engineers), Sheffield City Council and Mascot Management to ensure timely completion ahead of the new academic year and cost effective and high quality delivery. A satisfaction survey was conducted by Sheffield Hallam University following completion of the works and feedback was very positive.
