"Prior to the move we were in a space that just didn’t work for us – there was too much of it and it didn’t support easy communication or team work as our people were spread across four floors. St Pancras North gives us the space and resources we need for effective digital collaboration and puts us in the heart of a growing tech community too." Alison Ross, IT and Project Director

The brief

Auto Trader wanted its London office to follow in the footsteps of its innovative Manchester site, with a focus on tech-enabled collaborative working and creativity.

The office needed to once again deliver the wow-factor that has become synonymous with the brand’s confident persona, underpinned with leading edge technology and office design. The solution needed to reinforce Auto Trader’s visual working style and its commitment to agile, flexible team working to deliver the innovation that has allowed the brand to endure by adapting to the digital age.

With space at a premium in central London, the challenge for Claremont was to create a compelling statement for the company that both reflected the aspirations of the brand and provided a best-in-class workspace in practical terms.

The results

As colourful as the result is, the real driver of creativity in Auto Trader’s new London office is the technology that’s integrated into the space. Video communication systems, a C-Touch media wall for interactive huddle working and automated room booking systems all support the brand’s positioning as a leader in the digital marketplace. Claremont partnered with audio visual communications and collaboration specialists Viewpoint to deliver a seamless technology overlay that enables Auto Trader’s “squad” project teams to come together quickly and flexibly to brainstorm new ideas and solve problems.

Of course, the space wouldn’t be complete without the audacious flourishes that epitomise the brand – MINIs suspended from the ceiling deliver a gravity-defying first impression that evokes a scene from the iconic film “The Italian Job”, and provides a fitting reference to Britain’s proud motoring heritage.

Prior to the move we were in a space that just didn’t work for us – there was too much of it and it didn’t support easy communication or team work as our people were spread across four floors. St Pancras North gives us the space and resources we need for effective digital collaboration and puts us in the heart of a growing tech community too. Every aspect of the design supports us a digital business, captures our history, facilitates teamwork and shows we understand the need to motivate and inspire our staff. Claremont has done a tremendous job, delivering an office design that achieves all that in spades.
