The Brief
Supplying data analysis software to primarily large organisations, Apteco frequently has national and international visitors attending its offices for meetings and training courses. With this in mind, the company required a new workspace which would provide the right environment for visitors and staff alike and which would allow room for future expansion.
Apteco demonstrate a clear commitment in providing a great environment for its employees, with an emphasis on ensuring that the company's office not only be an efficient and effective place to work, but also a enjoyable place to be.
Claremont provided architectural consultancy services and worked closely with the Planning Authority and with Warwick Conservation Society to ensure that a contemporary office solution was provided, whilst maintaining the historic intent of the building and its surroundings.
The Solution
A key element of the design was the creation of a new reception at the rear of the property, accessed from the car park. The main meeting and training rooms are located on the ground floor and a cafe/hospitality space is positioned next to reception to allow meetings to spill over into this multi-functional space, as required. In order to maintain security and control visitor access, the secondary staircase to the upper floors was reversed and offices were located on the first, second and third floors.
Externally, a new ramped and landscaped courtyard was created and the rear gable of the outrigger was rebuilt in line with new building regulation requirements. The scope of work included the provision of all new mechanical and electrical services, complete with new power, data and lighting solutions. New kitchens, WCs and showers were also provided and original features such as sandblasted brickwork, decorative mouldings and joinery, original fireplaces, cornices and windows have been retained to meet the Grade II listing requirement. The decorative plaster mouldings in the main training room were all recreated to the authentic design as the originals had been destroyed previously.
Claremont’s ‘Viewpoint’ AV division provided high specification audiovisual systems for the boardroom, training room, internal and client meeting rooms, as well as a TV distribution system to include breakout areas.
The Result
Apteco are delighted with their new home, the contrast of the restored original features with the light and contemporary ambience provides a workspace full of character on the historic high street of Warwick.
