Halliwells Corporate Challenge 2007
Claremont was announced as overall winner of the Halliwells Corporate Challenge in aid of Claire House Hospice in May 2007, having raised the highest fundraising amount of £22,979.
Over 100 companies were given £50 by Halliwells to put forward a fundraising initiative of each company's own choosing. Claremont decided to take a national approach to the challenge, encouraging staff in all three of its regional offices in Warrington, Bristol and Fareham to join together on an epic 'Teddy Trail'. 'Monty', the company's adopted mascot, was to travel with Claremont staff on a 1,000 mile trip around the U.K, using as many different modes of transport as possible.
Monty's journey began when he left Warrington and flew down to Southampton, to take up residence in Claremont's Fareham office. Designer Paul Gotobed, a Major RLC-Officer Commanding 210 (Transport) Squadron for the TA, put Monty thorough his paces with some military manoeuvres before sending him on his way to Bristol in a vintage Panther sports car, changing vehicles at the halfway point in the journey to ride pillion on Director, Simon Campion's motorbike.
Monty enjoyed a boat trip while in Bristol, before Design Consultant Dave Newton embarked on a mammoth two-day bike ride to take him from Bristol to the company’s Head Office in Warrington. Over 40 members of the head office staff, along with their families and friends, walked and ran with Monty the final 40 mile leg of the journey, taking him from Warrington to Claire House on the Wirral.
Exceeding all expectations, Monty finally clocked up an epic 1,500 + miles on his nationwide journey, involving more than 8 different modes of transport and employees from all three Claremont regional offices.
"We wanted to come up with an idea that would involve all of our offices around the country," comments Director, Ann Clarke.
"One of our staff members came up with the idea of Monty and it grew from there. Everyone has wanted to get involved which has been great, and we are thrilled that not only did we win the challenge but we raised nearly £23,000 for such a wonderful cause."
